Why, Why, Why...
* Why do banks charge a fee on "insufficient funds" when they know there is not enough?
* Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet?
* Why doesn't glue stick to the bottle?
* Why do they use sterilized needles for death by lethal injection?
* Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard?
* Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw a revolver at him?
* Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?
* Whose idea was it to put an "S" in the word "lisp"?
* If people evolved from apes, why are there still apes?
* Why is it that no matter what color bubble bath you use the bubbles are always white?
* Is there ever a day that mattresses are not on sale?
* Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized?
* Why do people keep running over a string a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner, then reach down, pick it up, examine it, then put it down to give the vacuum one more chance?
* Why is it that no plastic bag will open from the end on your first try?
* How do those dead bugs get into those enclosed light fixtures?
* When we are in the supermarket and someone rams our ankle with a shopping cart then apologizes for doing so, why do we say, "It's all right?" Well, it isn't all right, so why don't we say, "That hurt, you stupid idiot?"
* Why is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that's falling off the table you always manage to knock something else over?
* In winter why do we try to keep the house as warm as it was in summer when we complained about the heat?
* How come you never hear father-in-law jokes?

Interviewer said "I shall either ask you ten easy questions or one really difficult question. Think well before you make up your mind!" The boy thought for a while and said, "my choice is one really difficult question."
"Well, good luck to you, you have made your own choice! Now tell me this.
"What comes first, Day or Night?"
The boy was jolted into reality as his admission depends on the correctness of his answer, but he thought for a while and said, "It's the DAY sir!"

Gas Pumping Tips
I've been in petroleum pipeline business for about 31 years, currentlyworking for the Kinder-Morgan Pipeline here in San Jose, CA. We deliverabout 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period from the pipe line; one dayit's diesel, the next day it's jet fuel and gasoline. We have 34storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons. Hereare some tricks to help you get your money's worth.
1. Fill up your car or truck in the morning when the temperatureis still cool. Remember that all service stations have their storagetanks buried below ground; and the colder the ground, the denser thegasoline. When it gets warmer gasolineexpands, so if you're filling up in the afternoon or in the evening, what should be a gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleumbusiness, the specific gravity and temperature of the fuel (gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleumproducts) are significant. Eve ry truckload that we load istemperature-compensated so that the indicated gallonage is actually theamount pumped. A one-degree rise in temperature is a big deal forbusinesses, but service stations don't have temperature compensation attheir pumps.
2. If a tanker truck is filling the station's tank at the timeyou want to buy gas, do not fill up; most likely dirt and sludge in thetank is being stirred up when gas is being delivered, and you might betransferring that dirt from the bottom of their tank into your car'stank.
3. Fill up when your gas tank is half-full (or half-empty),because the more gas you have in your tank the less air there is andgasoline evaporates rapidly, especially when it's warm. (Gasolinestorage tanks have an internal floating 'roof' membrane to act as abarrier between the gas and the atmosphere, thereby minimizingevaporation).
4. If you look at the trigger you'll see that it has threedelivery settings: slow, medium and high. When you're filling up do notsqueeze the trigger of the nozzle to the high setting. You should bepumping at the slow setting, therebyminimizing vapors created while you are pumping. Hoses at the pump arecorrugated; the corrugations act as a return path for vapor recovery b"from gas that already has been metered. If you are pumping at the highsetting, the agitated gasoline contains more vapor, which is beingsucked back into th e underground tank b" so you're getting less gas foryour money .
Hope this will help ease your 'pain at the pump'
Never lick an envelope !!!
One day a girl licked the envelopes and postage stamps instead of using a sponge. That very day the lady found a cut on her tongue. A week later, she noticed an abnormal swelling of her tongue. She went to the doctor, and they found nothing wrong.. Her tongue was not sore or anything. A couple of days later, her tongue started to swell more, and it began to get really sore, so sore, that she could not eat. She went back to the hospital, and demanded something be done. The doctor took an x-ray of her tongue and noticed a lump. He prepared her for minor surgery. When the doctor cut her tongue open, a live cockroach crawled out!!!!
There were cockroach eggs on the seal of the envelope. The egg was able to hatch inside of her tongue, because of her saliva. It was warm and moist...
This is a true story reported on CNN..
Andy Hume wrote:
Hey, I used to work in an envelope factory. You wouldn't believe the....things that float around in those gum applicator trays. I haven't licked an envelope for years!" I used to work for a print shop (32 years ago) and we were told NEVER to lick the envelopes. I never understood why until I had to go into storage and pull out 2500 envelopes that were already printed and saw several squads of cockroaches roaming around inside a couple of boxes with eggs everywhere. They eat the glue on the envelopes.

This makes sense…The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals not cold water. Maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain...
For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you.It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion.
Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.
A serious note about heart attacks:
· Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting,
· Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.
· You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack.
· Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.
· 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up.
· Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive...

'49-O' - I VOTE NOBODY
Yes, such a feature is available, but obviously these seemingly notorious leaders have never disclosed it. This is called '49-O'.
Why should you go and say 'I VOTE NOBODY'? ... Because, in a ward, if a candidate wins, say by 123 votes, and that particular ward has received '49-O' votes more than 123, then that polling will be cancelled and will have to be re-polled. Not only that, but the candidature of the contestants will be removed and they cannot contest the re-polling, since people had already expressed their decision on them.
This would bring fear into parties and hence look for genuine candidates for their parties for election. This would change the way, of our whole political system... it is seemingly surprising why the election commission has not revealed such a feature to the public.... Please spread this news to as many as you know... Seems to be a wonderful weapon against corrupt parties in India... show your power, expressing your desire not to vote for anybody, is even more powerful than voting... so don't miss your chance.

WHO OWNS KASHMIR ?
'Before beginning my talk I want to tell you something about Rishi Kashyap of Kashmir, after whom Kashmir is named. When Rishi Kashyap struck a rock and it brought forth water, he thought,'What a good opportunity to have a bath.' He took off his clothes, put them aside on the rock and entered the water. When he got out and wanted to dress, his clothes had vanished. A Pakistani had stolen them.
The Pakistani representative jumped up furiously and in support of Pakistan , he shouted, 'What are you talking about? The Pakistanis weren't there then.'
The Indian representative smiled and said, 'And now that we have made that clear, I will begin my speech saying that Kashmir has been an integral part of India all along.'

Have a smoke-free electronic cigarette!
P.T. Jyothi Datta
Mumbai, Sept. 30 Smokers can now light up in public places and yet, not attract Union Health Minister, Dr Anbumani Ramadoss’ ire, thanks to electronic-cigarettes finding their way into local markets.
Pitched as cigarette-alternatives or smoking-substitutes, the product looks and is held like a cigarette, but has no tobacco or smoke.
Instead, it consists of a high-tech silicon chip, an atomising chamber and lithium batteries, among other micro-electronic components. And diluted nicotine gets vapourised to give the smoker his smoke (read vapour) rings!
Anti-tobacco advocacy workers, though, are not amused with the product, as it comes when the Centre looks to completely snuff out smoking from public places from October 2.
The product falls in the regulatory gap between a tobacco product and a tobacco-cessation product, say health-workers from India, the UK and the US, where similar products are being sold over the last several months.
Chennai-based SPK Consumer Solutions Pvt Ltd, in collaboration with an undisclosed overseas company, is selling the product in Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, said Mr Sunil Kumar, who told Business Line he was a director with SPK. He was, however, guarded on other details regarding the product, company and the overseas alliance.
Cost of alternative
The product is being marketed as an alternative to smoking and a quit-smoking device, he confirmed. The quitters’ pack is Rs 3,600, where the smoker can gradually decrease the quantity of nicotine he inhales, till he quits. As a smoking alternative, the device is priced at Rs 1,000, Mr Kumar said.
The World Health Organisation, however, warns electronic cigarettes not to claim to be safe and effective anti-smoking therapies, as there is inadequate scientific evidence.
Among the e-cigarettes sold overseas is Ruyan E-cigarette from Ruyan America Inc, a US-based joint venture partner of Ruyan Holdings Ltd of Hong Kong. There are 35 manufacturers of e-cigarettes, say health workers, and 60 per cent are from China.

Birth certificates can be downloaded
Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin on Sunday launched the Corporation's online facility to issue birth and death certificates. He said the certificates could be downloaded from any part of the world free of cost.
"The facility is easy to use and people can save a lot of time," he said. The Corporation's website ( www.chennaicorporation.gov.in) has a link for 'online civic services.' The user can click the link and choose the birth or death certificate option. The search criteria include name, registration number and parents' names. Any two criteria need to be filled to launch the search. Once the certificate is found online, it can be printed out. About 1.06 lakh births and 41,000 deaths are registered in the city every year.
Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni said the website had received thousands of clicks recently in response to the online services offered.
"About 92 per cent of the clicks are to view birth, death and property tax details," he said. The Corporation will soon inaugurate online booking for community halls and mortuary vans

BEWARE GUYS…..If you have a car…..!!!!!!
'WARNING FROM POLICE - BEWARE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE--NEW WAY TO DO CARJACKINGS (NOT A JOKE)'
Heads up everyone! Please, keep this circulating. ..
You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside. You start the engine and shift into Reverse. When you look into the rear-view mirror to back out of your parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift into Park, unlock your doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back of your car; that is when the carjackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. They practically mow you down as they speed off in your car. And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car. So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are now compromised! BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED. If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just drive away. Remove the paper later. And be thankful that you read this e-mail. I hope you will forward this to friends and family, especially to women. A purse contains all kinds of personal information and identification documents, and you certainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands. Please keep this going
This might happen to you, take care!!!

Pay Your Credit Dues Regularly
Anuradha Nayaab lives in Bangalore. When she needed some money, she decided to knock on the bank's door for a loan. She decided to mortgage her house worth Rs 30 lakh for a loan of Rs 15 lakh. She applied for a Loan against Property (LAP) with a public sector bank; sadly it got rejected. Not wasting any time, she approached another bank; the loan application got rejected again! It was tough luck.
Surprised with the turn out of things, Anuradha enquired with the banks to reason out. She was told that her name was listed with the Credit Information Bureau (India) Limited, also known as CIBIL.
What is CIBL?
CIBIL is a repository of information that contains credit history of borrowers. It generates credit report of borrower’s repayment history, settlement, defaults, contact details. Lenders have access to it.
How did this happen?
On probing further into the matter, Anuradha found out that she had defaulted payments on her two credit cards. She had taken credit cards from two different banks in the year 2004. Until the end of 2008, she was disciplined in her repayments but when emergencies crept up, credit card payments slipped her priority list.
Consequence— her name was listed with the CIBIL as a defaulter.
Anuradha decided to resolve the matter. She got in touch with the credit card companies. She was told that one of her credit card was deactivated and the amount on second one was written off because she had ignored her payments.
How did her name appear on CIBIL list?
Anyone who has borrowed from a lender will have his/her name with CIBIL. This list includes even those who make their payments on time. "The issue arises when the repayment history against your name shows defaults such as in Anuradha's case. When your name appears as a defaulter, it effectively shuts off your access to future credit except for fully secured loans," says Harsh Roongta, CEO of apnaloan.com.
Simple Solutions
Case # 1 : When NASA began the launch of astronauts into space, they found out that the pens would not work at zero gravity (ink will not flow down to the writing surface).
Solution # 1 : To solve this problem, it took them one decade and $12 million. They developed a pen that worked at zero gravity, upside down, underwater, in practically any surface including crystal and in a temperature range from below freezing to over 300 degrees C.
Solution # 2 : And what did the Russians do...?? They used a pencil.
Case # 2 : One of the most memorable case studies on Japanese management was the case of the empty soapbox, which happened in one of Japan 's biggest cosmetics companies. The company received a complaint that a consumer had bought a soapbox that was empty.
Immediately the authorities isolated the problem to the assembly Line, which transported all the packaged boxes of soap to the delivery department. For some reason, one soapbox went through the assembly line empty.
Management asked its engineers to solve the problem.
Solution # 1 : Post-haste, the engineers worked hard to devise an X-ray machine with high-resolution monitors manned by two people to watch all the soapboxes that passed through the line to make sure they were not empty. No doubt, they worked hard and they worked fast but they spent a whoopee amount to do so.
Solution # 2 : But when a rank-and-file employee in a small company was posed with the same problem, he did not get into complications of X-rays, etc., but instead came out with another solution.
He bought a strong industrial electric fan and pointed it at the assembly line. He switched the fan on, and as each soapbox passed the fan, it simply blew the empty boxes out of the line.
Moral
· Always look for simple solutions.
· Devise the simplest possible solution that solves the problems.
· Always focus on solutions & not on problems
HIV Knowledge -- very Imp--- quite informative
The purpose of sending this mail to U is to be aware of the nonsense stuff from the net, don't panic if you find a Needle in the Theatre or some threatening note of infection.
Dear Friends!!!
Its good to be well informed about HIV. There was a story on junk some days back where it is said that a boy got infected by HIV virus by eating pani-puri. And there have also been rumors where people are affected by the HIV virus when they got pricked by an HIV infected needle in theaters which is rubbish.
So read along!
I have seen this below mentioned mail floating across group email & I feel its my moral responsibility to correct all misconceptions regarding HIV /AIDS.
I can do this because I am educated enough to comment on this and for those who don't know my profession ... I am serving as Brand Manager (Product Manager) handling anti HIV/AIDS portfolio (called as Antiretroviral Drugs) in Ranbaxy.
Please read following points carefully & don't send emails related to Medical ailments without having complete knowledge about it (even partial knowledge could be grossly dangerous).
* HIV (virus) requires *ONLY* *Blood or Semen* as medium to transmit from one body to another.
* HIV *can not* transmit even through *Saliva*(mucous) i.e . even if HIV-infected patient coughs or smooches and another person is exposed to his sputum (cough) or saliva, the virus still can not transmit because concentration of virus particles in sputum is almost NIL & exposure to air anyway kills virus in fraction of seconds.
* In case an HIV-infected person gets an injury (like the cut in below mentioned story) and he is bleeding, the virus can transmit to another person only if another person has a cut/wound in his body & that too when blood from both person comes in contact with each other* (this is also very very rare unless bleeding is very high) and not otherwise.
* HIV can *never survive in any other liquid * medium also other than blood or semen (& please for God sake ... never in Pani Puri wala pani)
* Even if one drinks an HIV infected blood (or semen) of someone (ingest through Gastro Intestinal track), the virus can not survive in the acidic pH of stomach*. Highest extent of acidity is 0 (practically not possible) so imagine 1 as pH which is in our stomach. (This pH can burn your own finger in less than a second if you dip in that acid).
* Exposure of less than 1 second in AIR KILLS the HIV virus*( hence story of needle pricks in Cinema theatres is a crap). Even if blood from a wound (of infected person) dries up (*blood clot*), *the virus dies*and can not infect anyone else
* HIV transmission is *ONLY* an *INFECTION* i.e.entrance of virus in one's body. It *DOES NOT MEAN AIDS*.
* An HIV-infected person (after entrance of virus) can progress to a condition of AIDS only after *8 to 10 YEARS *(not in 15 days as in the Pani Puri story)
* It is *not HIV (virus) that kills a human* .....the virus attacks immune cells (cells that fight against foreign pathogens/antigens) and hence a person's ability to fight against infections & diseases slowly diminishes and person ultimately dies of a disease which could be as simple as TB
* Most importantly, HIV is no longer a dreadful disease ... it is "*CHRONIC MANAGEABLE DISEASE*" just like Diabetes or Hypertension.
* If there is anything you need to be careful from to prevent HIV is Unsafe sex*, *Blood transfusion* (check before taking) /Blood donation (use sterilized needles only) and any *blood contact during an accident *or so where amount of bleeding is very high.
PLZ O PLZ spread this message to avoid rumors and to educate people.

Hindu Culture
1. The Effect of Going to the Temple.
In the temple, the Sanctum sanctorum is completely enclosed on three sides. The effect of all energies is very high in here. The lamp that is lit radiates the heat and light energy.
The ringing of the bells and the chanting of prayers gives the sound energy. The fragrance from the flowers, the burning of camphor and incense sticks give out the chemical energy.
The effect of all these energies is activated by the positive energy that comes out of the idol. The water that is used for the Pooja is called "holy water" or "Theertham" because it receives the positive of all these energies. When people go to the temple for the Deepaaraadhana, and the doors open up, the positive energy gushes out onto the people who are there. The water that is sprinkled onto the people passes on the energy to all.
That is the reason why, men are not allowed to wear shirt to the temple and ladies have to wear more ornaments because it is through these jewels (metals) that positive energy is absorbed in ladies.. It is proved that Theertham is a very good blood purifier, as it is highly energised. Hence it is given as prasadam to the devotees.
2. Worship of Tulasi and Peepal Tree {Aalamaram}
Tulasi should be worshipped by prostrating before it. As it is not tall the oxygen passed out from the plant, along with its positive energy, can be obtained only at the lower level.
Whereas the Peepal tree should be worshipped by going around it, to get the full effect of the oxygen and the positive energy. The oxygen layer is very close to the leaves of the tree and as these leaves shake at the slightest breeze, it passes the energy more effectively. While going round the tree, our negative energy passes out of us through our right side and is absorbed by the tree and transformed into positive energy. This is passed on to us when we go round the tree.
3. Measuring the energy.
[This is measured with a pair of 'l' shaped rods held horizontally facing the object to be tested]
a. All flowers that are used in the temple for Pooja are proved to have positive energy.
b. Gingerly oil [Nallennai] is proved to have more positive energy than other medium. Hence, best for lighting the lamp.
c. The fresh sandalwood paste given from the temple has more positive energy than the one, which is kept for a day or two.
d. The use of the traditional wick lamps is very effective in passing out the energy, as there is a regular movement for the flame. The energy is passed out through the waves of movement.
So the lighting of electric lamp does not serve the purpose of passing the energy.
4. Aura and its Measurement.
There are various rings around us that form the aura of our body.
The first is our 'SAREERA' or the BODY itself.
The next is 'AATHMA' or the SOUL.
The third is 'M! ANAS' or the MIND.
The fourth is ' VIGNYANA' or KNOWLEDGE.
And the last is 'ANANDAM' or HAPPINESS.
This aura can be measured scientifically by the rods.
A person's aura was measured and was found to be of one-foot radius. The same person was asked to chant prayers for a few minutes. Then, again, his aura was measured. The radius of the aura had increased by another foot and showed two feet.
This proves the positive effect of prayers/mantras.
5. Aspects regarding sleep..
Normally children are found rolling a lot in their sleep. It is proved that they do so because their bodies can detect the positive energy even in sleep. When they roll they move to the place where there is positive Energy. If their cot is moved permanently to this place, they stop rolling.
This is applicable to older people also. We are asked to sit and chant prayers before we go to bed and also chant them before getting up. It has been proved that 23% of the heart attacks occur when people lie down. This is because a person who has been vertical the whole day suddenly lies down causing an irregularity in the heartbeats.
So, to stabilise this, it is proved that sitting on the bed and chanting prayers for two minutes will be effective. And it has the same effect when done before getting up also.
It is proved that chanting 'Narayana naamam' 108 times comes to exactly two minutes.
6. Why is it considered a bad omen when a cat crosses our path when we go out?
Cat is an animal, which has only negative energy. When a cat crosses, it leaves behind, the negative energy in its path.
So, when we cross this path, we are affected by the negative energy and will not succeed in our venture.
7. Any object's energy could be measured.
One such object is the cell phone. This is a thing with negative energy. This can be made positive. A picture of a God was placed on the cell phone, in such a way that the picture was facing the phone. The energy was still negative. Then the picture was turned and kept so that it faced the user. The energy immediately became positive. A small sticker of any God is sufficient to make it positive.
8. Aspects regarding energy in houses.
a. In the present living conditions, people mostly live in small houses or in flats. In such situations it is difficult to follow the 'VAASTHU SASHTRA'. It is proved that it is enough if the house has a Pooja room. This room will be able to cover the whole area of the house and harmonise the energy. Whereas in a big house the area is too much for just a small Pooja room to harmonise the energy. In such cases the 'VAASTHU SASHTRA' should be followed.
b. Pictures of Gods or Goddesses, if kept in the entrance of the house, is proved to ward off all negative energy.
c. In a person's life of 60yrs, he spends nearly 20 years in bed. So the bedroom should be kept clean and bathroom must be kept closed always. This is because we eliminate all our wastes in the bathroom. The wastes are full of negative energy. When the door is kept open, this negative energy passes out into the bedroom and affects the occupants.
d. Keeping a flower vase with plastic or artificial flowers in the corner of a room is equal to the garbage bin. It is proved that these flowers absorb all negative energies in the room caused due to arguments or ill thoughts. So, the flower vase with plastic flowers should not be kept in the centre of a room or on the dining table. This is a harmoniser of energies. Garbage bins are never kept in the centre of a room.
e. Chanting prayers in a group is very good for the house. It activates the positive energy and spreads to all parts of the house. If this is not possible, keeping tapes of devotional songs, melodious music and! prayers will also give the same effect.
Please pass on this to all whom U think are interested in knowing about our culture.
