Rare photographs of the Queen are among those collected for a new book cataloguing her 60-year reign. 'Her Majesty' looks back at her private and public life and features the work of photographers Cecil Beaton, Dorothy Wilding, Karsh, Lord Snowdon, Patrick Lichfield, as well as more contemporary work from the likes of Wolfgang Tillmans, Rankin, Annie Leibovitz, and many others. Above, Queen Elizabeth meeting stars, including Marilyn Monroe, at the premiere of The Battle of the River Plate in Leicester Square in 1956.
The images include photographs of state visits and meetings with dignitaries as well as unguarded personal moments such as the Queen driving through Windsor in her Daimler in 1957, with Prince Charles in the passenger seat and Princess Anne in the back of the car
Some previously unseen shots, unearthed by the book's editor Reuel Golden, are among those featured. They include one of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh waving goodbye from the steps of an aeroplane as they prepare to return home at the end of a tour of the West Indies in 1966. The image, taken by Glaswegian photographer Harry Benson, was found undeveloped in a roll of archived film.
