Looming large: Stunning photo of One World Trade Center shows New York's tallest building breaking through the clouds
In case there was any doubt just how tall One World Trade Center has become, a stunning new photograph shows the still-unfinished tower poking through the clouds and looming large over lower Manhattan.
The World Trade Center will stand 1,776 feet tall when it opens next year.
Crews are currently working to install the spire of the tower, which will stand 408 feet above the tower's 104 floors.
However, even now it is the tallest building in New York City. Last April, it surpassed the Empire State Building, which had reigned supreme over the New York skyline from 1931 until the original World Trade Towers were completed in 1972.
After they were destroyed in the September 11, 2011 terrorist attacks, the Empire State Building became tallest in the city once again.
The building itself has already reached its terminal height. All the remains is the installation of the spire, which began in December.
When it is finished, it will be the third-tallest building in the world, behind the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
