Tiny Figures & Food Landscapes

Artists create miniature landscapes using tiny figures and food

  • Amazing works are by Italians Antonio Magliocchetti and Stefano Adorinni
  • They have made more than 130 photos from bread, pineapples and coffee
  • Antonio: 'We usually create them in our living rooms during our free time'
  • Their secret is £1 figurines on eBay, a good camera and very steady hands

Art may be food for the soul, but these works really are good enough to eat.
Two amateur photographers have made more than 100 miniature scenes in their living rooms - with food from their kitchen cupboards.
The 'food art' includes a moon landing in parmesan cheese, a ski slope on an iced cake, an office built from wafer biscuits and a crib containing the baby Jesus inside a muffin.

She had spent more than 30 minutes treading water before help arrived.
Her frantic owner looked on, powerless to help, as the member of Ladder 19 put on a survival suit and headed onto the treacherous bay.

Inching out across the cracking ice, fireman Coyle carefully closed in on the struggling animal with a Stokes basket, a specialized stretcher, ready to carry the animal back if need be.

Forgotten Pyramids Of Tucume In Peru.

We all know how pyramids are mysterious and wonderful buildings. We yet don't know how exactly they were built and what was their main purpose and they still remain one of the most interesting things from human's past.
There is already a large number of well known pyramids, but there are some of them which still remain unseen and less popular. Here you'll see some interesting photos of forgotten Tucume pyramids which are located in Lambayeque Valley at the North Coast of Peru.

There are about 26 major pyramids and platforms at the Lambayeque Valley and the largest of them is Huaca Larga which measures 700 meters in length, 280 meters in width and 30 meters in height. It is believed that those pyramids were built around 1000-1500 AD.

A Cheat Sheet For the Next 100 Quintillion Years

A Cheat Sheet For the Next 100 Quintillion YearsSEXPAND
Did you know the Hale-Bopp comet will return 2,372 years from now, while in 50,000 years, Niagara Falls will disappear? And a mere 5 million years from now, men will be extinct, thanks to the Y chromosome's instability. These are just some of the gems in the BBC'sTimeline of the Far Future, a major events forecast for the next 100 quintillion years.
It's fascinating to learn how long certain materials will take to break down — the titanium in your MacBook will only start corroding after 100,000 years, while it will take 1 million years for humanity's glass products to disintegrate. To be honest, a lot of these predictions seem a bit speculative: In 20 billion years, will the universe be torn apart? In a trillion years, will stars really cease to form? Doesn't really matter — according to this thing, we'll already be long extinct at that point. [BBC via Digg]

Waterwork Art

Waterwork of art: American photographer creates amazing images which capture the split-second dyed liquids burst into colour - and are so exquisite they 'look like glass sculptures'

  • Jack Long, a 55-year-old photographer from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, developed a technique for capturing the images
  • He build special devices to fire a precise mixture of water and dyes in order to capture - which work underwater
  • Mr Long made a set of images set in an art gallery and placed on pedestals after admirers said his pictures reminded them of fine glasswork

They look like exquisite vases made of finely-blown glass, placed carefully on a pedestal to receive the admiration of gallery visitors.

But in fact these colourful images are not precious artefacts preserved for the ages, but show a split-second in which specially-manipulated liquids are captured in fantastic formation.

They are the work of American photographer Jack Long, 55, from Milwaukee, who developed a special formula for the liquids himself.
Sculpture: This pink, purple and yellow creation is posed up on a pedestal
Spray: The images are created by spraying jets of treated liquid
Split-second: The images could be mistaken for intricate glasswork, but are actually split-second snapshots of liquid in motion

World's Ugliest Woman

How the 'World's Ugliest Woman' beat her bullies

Nadine Kalinauskas courtesy of Yahoo!Shine lifestylechannels
She is one of only three people born with an unusual genetic ailment that prevents her from gaining any weight, but now, Lizzie Velasquez is sharing her inspirational life story to inspire others Trends

When Lizzie Velasquez, 24, was in high school, she discovered an eight-second video online that featured a photo of her face. It called her the "world's ugliest woman" and had been viewed more than four million times.

What would have destroyed many only made Velasquez, who suffers from a very rare syndrome that prevents her from putting on weight and cost her the vision in one eye, stronger.
"Am I gonna let the people who called me a monster define me?...No. I'm gonna let my goals and my success and my accomplishments be the things that define me," she said.
She vowed to become a motivational speaker, an author and a college graduate.
Only a few years later, she is proudly all of the above.
At a recent TED Talk in Austin,TX, Velasquez shared her life story before asking the crowd, "What defines you?"

"For so long, I thought what defined me was my outer appearance," she told them, admitting that when she was younger, she woke up every day wanting to look different.
But thanks to her "amazing" support system, Velasquez found the strength to rise above the bullying and negative thoughts:
"My life is in my hands. I could either choose to make this really good or choose to make this really bad."
"The best way that I could get back at all those people who made fun of me…was to make myself better," she said, sharing how she chose to turn around the negative things and use them as a ladder to reach her goals.
Her message struck a chord. This morning, Velasquez wrote about the overwhelming response to her talk:
"Before I went to bed last night I thanked God for the INCREDIBLE messages of support and love I've been flooded with. I also prayed for the people who are hurting in their own lives and in turn take it out on me," she wrote on Facebook. "This morning when I woke up, my phone, email, twitter, YouTube, and Facebook were about to explode with love!! I've said it before and I'll say it again, THANK YOU! Thank you for believing in my message and thank you for helping me share my story."

Rather than ruining the photo, the rain dropping around them merely heightens the romanticism of it, adding a shiny gleam to their surroundings.
